Ex-Chelsea starlet Jonathan Panzo makes Monaco debut in 1-0 Coupe de la Ligue win over FC Lorient
Yet another English starlet has made a debut abroad after Jonathan Panzo started for Monaco on Wednesday night.Following hot on the heels of Jadon Sancho, the defender, 18, joined the French sidefrom Chelseain July and held his own at left-back against FC Lorient in the Coupe de la Ligue.2

Thierry Henrys side were 1-0 winners as he named a team with an average age of 20.7, which also included 29-year-old ex-Tottenham star Nacer Chadli.Giulian Biancone, 18, settled the match with a stunning curled effort from the edge of the area in the second half.

It was a testing match for the youngsters with the game halted briefly due to a flooded pitch, but in the end they emerged victorious.Panzo could have recorded an assist but saw a fine cross wasted as his raking ball from the left flank resulted in an excellent one-on-one save by Lorient goalkeeper Danijel Petkovic.2

The cup clash was played in wet condition after a storm hit the region.

Now Panzo – who was a member of Englands Under-17 World Cup winning side in 2017 – is under consideration for the Monaco first-team, he will feel his decision to move has been vindicated.In August, he told The Sun: I wanted to settle down somewhere instead of going back and forth, back and forth.I thought settling down somewhere would be better for me as a young player, to get comfortable there and do my thing. I just had to be a bit strong and confident in my abilities to expose myself to the world.
