Manchester United booked a Champions League quarter-final in the most remarkable fashion on Wednesday night with an away goals defeat of Paris Saint-Germain.United won 3-1 at the Parc des Princes to tie the aggregate score 3-3 – with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side progressing to the last eight as they scored three away goals to PSG’s two.4

The Red Devils’ win came from a remarkable smash and grab performance, with PSG dominating proceedings but put to the sword when it mattered.Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring after some dodgy defending, and he added United’s second when Gianluigi Buffon, the legendary goalkeeper, spilled Marcus Rashford’s long-range strike straight into the Belgium forward’s path. PSG then wasted various chances of their own – Kylian Mbappe had an especially poor match in front of goal – before Rashford grabbed the winning goal from the penalty spot; the contentious injury-time spot kick was awarded after a VAR consultation.This was the latest in an increasing plethora of PSG collapses in Europe, and the perennial French champions have been widely criticised by both the public and press since the full-time whistle blew.

L’Equipe, the French sport newspaper, have gone in especially hard on PSG, as is their custom.Their famed harsh player ratings have been published revealing both Buffon and Thilo Kehrer were handed a 2/10 rating, while five PSG stars – including Mbappe, Angel Di Maria and Dani Alves – were rated 3/10.4

Thomas Tuchel, the PSG manager, was also rated 3/10, while his Manchester United counterpart, Solskjaer, was lauded with a remarkable 9/10 rating.Lukaku was rated as the standout performer at 8/10 after scoring twice, while Rashford was awarded a 7/10 along with United’s central defensive pairing of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof.4
